The First Library is a medieval co-op survival builder. You explore a fallen world, recover lost books, build your own library and open portals to new worlds. Knowledge is your most important resource.

When does The First Library release?

The release date is not announced yet. A Closed Playtest starts in December 2026, an Open Playtest follows in mid-2027, and Early Access on Steam comes after that. Wishlist the game on Steam to get notified.

Sign-ups run through our Discord. Join the server and follow the playtest channel.

Can I play The First Library solo?

Yes. You can play alone or with friends.

Does The First Library have co-op multiplayer?

Yes. One player hosts a lobby and friends join in online co-op.

Which platforms is The First Library on?

Which languages are supported?

English and German.

Is The First Library like Valheim, Enshrouded or Solarpunk?

It shares the co-op survival crafting loop of Valheim and Enshrouded: gather, build, craft, fight. Like Solarpunk, it also has a cozy side: grow crops, cook at the campfire and decorate your library. The difference: you progress through knowledge instead of levels, your library is the heart of your base, and portals lead to new worlds.

What are the system requirements?

Minimum: Windows 11, i5 or Ryzen 5 at 3 GHz, 8 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 580, 1 GB storage, broadband internet.

How much will The First Library cost?

Does the game use AI-generated content?

The assets, the story and the sounds in The First Library are made by people. We only use AI as a tool for development and bootstrapping.

Who is making The First Library?

The First Library is developed and published by Escliene Games, the indie studio of Dominik Matt. Dominik Matt builds the game, with help from friends who playtest and lend a hand at events.
